DC United: Annual HFStival Brings Rockers and Activists Together
Buzz Date: May 26, 2000

While most of the world mourns the death of the venerable Lollapalooza tour, rock fans in the Washington, DC area need not worry. WHFS FM, one of DC's leading modern-rock radio stations, prepares to trot out another year of its HFStival this Sunday, May 28, with a combination of alt-rock and activism. The annual festival, which has run since 1994, features a top-notch lineup of hot modern-rock bands, as well as a local artist stage, a techno/electronica tent, and info booths for 62 not-for-profit organizations. Perry Farrell be damned, HFStival is ready to give the kids what they want!

Acts scheduled for the main stage include heavyweights Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Cypress Hill, Third Eye Blind, and Deftones, as well as Filter, Godsmack, Eve 6, the Bloodhound Gang, Staind, Slipknot, and Vertical Horizon. Lesser-known bands Nine Days, Kittie, Jepetto, Kottonmouth Kings, SR-71, SEV, Tugboat Annie, and Good Charlotte will also perform. The Locals-Only stage will feature Jepetto, Mary Prankster, Brickfoot, Lake Trout, Smartbomb, Phaser, Laughing Colors, and Rebel Amish Radio. The Trancemission Tent will showcase techno and electronica artists Dieselboy, DJ Dan, Dave Ralph, Liquid Todd, Cut La Roc, DJ Feelgood, Sandra Collins, Scott Henry, Lieven, and John Tab.

The concert sold out in a record 47 minutes; however, some tickets are still available through WHFS giveaways. The sell-out comes as good news, not only for the station, but also for Amnesty International USA and Friends of the World Food Programme, two charities slated to receive a portion of ticket sale proceeds. The 62 organizations expected to host festival information booths range from the SPCA of Annapolis to Planned Parenthood and from Rock for Life to Handgun Control.
